A man worth
celebrating.
Created in collaboration with his daughter, this project celebrates Roy’s milestone 80th birthday and the lasting impact of his life on family, friends, and community.
Roy, a dedicated coach, community leader, and family man, was about to turn 80. His daughter wanted to mark the occasion with something meaningful: a video that gathered reflections, stories, and messages from the people whose lives he’s touched, creating a gift that honored both who he is and the legacy he’s built.
Goal
The project began with a phone call. Roy’s daughter shared her vision for the video, and I asked questions to better understand her dad. Together, we agreed that she would gather video messages from friends and family, and I would assemble the footage into a single, thoughtful piece for her to review.
As the footage came in, the scope of the project quickly grew. We received more than 90 minutes of video, with a shared goal of creating a final piece under 30 minutes. I reviewed, organized, and edited the clips to highlight key moments, balance humor and emotion, and create a narrative that reflected the arc of Roy’s life.
Strategy
The completed video was premiered at Roy’s 80th birthday celebration and provided to him as a keepsake to revisit and share. It now serves as a lasting record of the relationships, memories, and stories that define his life.
In his daughter’s words:
“Alex’s ability to sort through all of these clips from people he didn’t know and create this story blew us away. We were so pleased with the final product. It is a video story that my Dad, his family, and especially his grandchildren will treasure forever.”
